Finished Bore European Standard Sprockets – Product Overview

Корея Евър-Пауър finished bore European standard sprockets are supplied pre-machined to your shaft diameter — bore, keyway and grub screws all done. The installer removes the sprocket from the box, slides it onto the shaft, tightens two grub screws and the drive is ready. No lathe, no broach, no keyway cutter required on site.

The finished bore range covers chain sizes 06B-1 through 20B-1 to DIN 8187 / ISO R606, with bore diameters from 10 mm through 100 mm depending on chain size and tooth count. Every sprocket is pre-bored to H7 tolerance as standard — the correct fit class for a keyed shaft with normal industrial running clearance. H6 (interference fit) and H8 (loose clearance) are available on request for applications with specific assembly or thermal expansion requirements.

The keyway is machined to BS 4235 Part 1 dimensions and supplied with two M-series grub screws positioned 90° apart — one over the keyway and one at 90°. This dual-screw arrangement prevents axial movement of the sprocket under load reversals, which is a common cause of sprocket walk and premature bore wear in single-setscrew designs. The keyway base is machined square and the keyway walls are parallel to within the BS 4235 tolerance, ensuring the key seats fully without rocking.

Bore Tolerance Quick Reference — Which Fit Class Do You Need?

H7  (Standard — supplied as default)

Sliding clearance fit with keyed shaft. Sprocket slides on for assembly and is located by the key and grub screws. Correct for the great majority of industrial conveyor, agricultural and process drives at normal operating temperatures.

H6  (Closer tolerance — on request)

Tighter bore tolerance. Used where accurate sprocket concentricity is critical — high-speed chain drives above 400 rpm, precision timing applications or drives where minimal runout at the sprocket pitch circle is specified by the OEM. Requires careful assembly.

H8  (Loose — on request)

Wide clearance fit. Rarely specified for drive sprockets, but used where differential thermal expansion between the sprocket and shaft is expected — for example, cast iron sprockets running on steel shafts in high-temperature environments, or where paint or coatings will be applied after fitting.

All bores supplied with keyway to BS 4235 Part 1. Grub screw thread diameter and depth match the hub wall thickness at each size. Specify tolerance class H6 or H8 when ordering if required — H7 is supplied if not stated.

The entire installation of a finished bore sprocket requires only a hammer, a hex key and a torque wrench. No machine tools, no qualified machinist, no measuring equipment beyond a basic rule.

Check the Bore Fits

Measure the shaft diameter with a micrometer. Confirm it is within the H7 bore tolerance band for the sprocket ordered. The sprocket should slide onto the shaft with hand pressure — it should not require force and should not be loose enough to rock.

Fit the Key

Insert the parallel key into the shaft keyway. The key should be a snug push fit in the shaft keyway — if it rocks, check the key size matches the keyway (BS 4235 key for the corresponding bore diameter). The key should sit flush with or just below the shaft surface.

Slide On & Position

Slide the sprocket onto the shaft, aligning the keyway in the bore with the key on the shaft. Push the sprocket to the correct axial position — align the sprocket tooth centreline with the chain centreline using a straight-edge. Do not use the grub screws for final axial positioning.

Torque the Grub Screws

Tighten the grub screw over the key first, then the 90° grub screw. Apply thread-locking compound (Loctite 243 or equivalent) to both screws. Tighten to the correct torque for the grub screw thread size — typically 4–8 Nm for M6, 8–14 Nm for M8. Check alignment after tightening.

The primary use case for finished bore sprockets is maintenance replacement on existing drives. When a sprocket wears out, the shaft diameter and keyway size are already known. H7 Bore — The Correct Fit for Keyed Shafts

H7 provides a sliding clearance fit on a shaft machined to h6 or k6 tolerance — the two most common shaft tolerance classes for keyed connections in European machine design. The sprocket locates concentrically on the shaft by the key rather than by bore interference, so the clearance in the bore is correct and intentional. Attempting to bore finished bore sprockets to an H6 tolerance removes the bore allowance and risks an interference fit that will prevent assembly.

Dual Grub Screws — 90° Apart

Two grub screws positioned 90° apart lock the sprocket against both rotational slip and axial movement. The first screw seats over the key, pulling the sprocket hub tight against the key faces. The second screw at 90° generates a radial clamping force against the shaft surface, preventing the sprocket from moving axially along the shaft under chain tension variation. Single-setscrew designs are adequate only for light, non-reversing drives with constant chain tension.

BS 4235 Keyway — Interchangeable with Standard Keys

The keyway is machined to BS 4235 Part 1 dimensions — the same standard used for keyways in British and European shafts and hubs. Standard parallel keys from any engineering supplier will fit without modification. The keyway depth and width tolerances are machined to P9 (hub side) and N9 or Js9 (shaft side) as appropriate for a normal keyed drive, ensuring the key seats correctly in both the shaft and the sprocket hub without a loose or binding fit.

C45 Steel — Hardened Tooth Flanks

The same C45 alloy and induction tooth hardening used in our stock bore range — 52–58 HRC at the tooth flank, with a tough unhardened core through the hub. The machining of the finished bore is carried out before tooth hardening in the processing sequence, ensuring that the heat cycle does not distort the bore or keyway. Bore and keyway are measured after full processing to confirm dimensional compliance.

Matching Chain — European DIN 8187

Every finished bore sprocket in this range is designed to run with European standard roller chain to DIN 8187 / ISO R606 — the same chain series used across European industrial, agricultural and process equipment. Running ANSI or JIS chain on a DIN 8187 sprocket causes poor tooth engagement and rapid wear. Always confirm the chain standard on your equipment before ordering.

Duplex and Triplex Hub Availability

Finished bore hubs are stocked in duplex (-2) and triplex (-3) configurations for 08B through 16B in the most commonly ordered tooth counts. My shaft diameter is 22 mm — which bore do I order?
Order a sprocket with the 22 mm finished bore. The H7 tolerance on a 22 mm bore is +0/+21 µm — the bore will be between 22.000 mm and 22.021 mm. This gives a sliding clearance fit on a shaft machined to h6 tolerance (22.000 to 21.987 mm). If your shaft is machined to k6 (a light interference fit class), the sprocket will be slightly tighter to assemble but will still go on with moderate hand pressure and a rubber mallet. If your shaft is oversize (worn or incorrectly machined to over 22.021 mm), the sprocket will not fit — measure the shaft accurately before ordering.
Can I rebore a finished bore sprocket to a larger diameter?
Yes, within limits. The bore can be enlarged up to the maximum bore shown in the specification table for that tooth count and chain size — this is the largest bore that still leaves adequate hub wall thickness for the grub screw thread and structural integrity. Do not exceed the maximum bore value in the table. Note that the existing keyway will need to be remachined or a new keyway cut if the bore is enlarged, since the keyway depth is proportional to the bore diameter to BS 4235. It is usually more economical to order the correct bore from us than to re-machine a standard bore sprocket.
What key size should I use with my finished bore sprocket?
The keyway in every finished bore sprocket is machined to the BS 4235 key size for the bore diameter. The key width and depth are determined by the shaft/bore diameter range: for example, a 20 mm bore uses a 6×6 mm key, a 28 mm bore uses an 8×7 mm key, and a 45 mm bore uses a 14×9 mm key. The exact keyway dimensions for each bore are shown in the specification table above. Use a standard parallel key of the correct width — not a Woodruff (semicircular) key, which is not compatible with this keyway profile.
Are duplex and triplex finished bore sprockets available?
Yes. Duplex (-2) and triplex (-3) finished bore sprockets are stocked for 08B through 16B in the most common tooth counts (13T, 17T, 19T, 25T). For 06B and 20B duplex/triplex, and for non-catalogue tooth counts in all sizes, contact us with your specification. Lead time for non-stocked duplex and triplex finished bore sprockets is 10–15 working days. The bore range for duplex and triplex hubs is the same as simplex for the equivalent chain size and tooth count.
What is the minimum quantity and lead time for finished bore sprockets?
For stocked sizes (06B–16B, common tooth counts, bore sizes in catalogue range), there is no minimum order — single sprockets can be ordered and dispatched within 2–5 working days. For non-stocked sizes — 20B finished bore, non-catalogue tooth counts, duplex/triplex in 06B or 20B — minimum order is typically 5 pieces with a 10–15 working day lead time.
