Taper Bore Sprockets – Product Overview
Korea Ever-Power taper bore sprockets to DIN 8187 / ISO R606 are supplied pre-machined to accept the standard taper lock bush series — 1008 through 5050 — covering shaft diameters from 12 mm to approximately 125 mm depending on bush size. The taper bore replaces the conventional keyed bore and setscrew arrangement with a precision-ground internal taper that mates with the external taper of the split taper lock bush. When the bush cap screws are tightened, the taper generates a large compressive clamping load on the shaft without requiring a key for rotational drive — the friction grip alone is sufficient for all rated drive loads.
The most important practical advantage of taper bore sprockets is removal without shaft damage. Loosening the cap screws and reinserting them in the ejection holes of the bush pushes the bush free of the sprocket taper — the sprocket and bush separate cleanly from the shaft in seconds with no hammer, puller or heat required. This is the critical difference from a parallel-keyed bore, where removing a sprocket without a puller risks shaft and bearing damage, and where hammering the sprocket free can introduce shock loads into the adjacent bearing. For any drive where sprockets must be changed more than once a year, the time and tooling saved by taper bore mounting justifies the additional initial cost.
Taper bore sprockets are manufactured in three hub configurations: TS (simplex/single strand) for single-chain drives, TD (duplex/double strand) for two-strand chain drives, and TT (triplex/triple strand) for three-strand drives. The hub bore for all three configurations is the same for a given chain size and tooth count — the difference is the overall hub width, which increases with each additional strand. Browse the complete sprocket range for other mounting configurations.
Materials: standard grade is C45 carbon steel with induction-hardened tooth flanks. Cast iron (G22) variants are available for abrasive environments where graphite lubricity reduces tooth wear — see our cast iron sprocket range for details. Taper lock bushes are not included — specify the bush code and shaft diameter separately. Pair with matched European standard roller chain to DIN 8187 for a complete factory-direct drive package.

🔧 When taper bore is the right choice
- Sprockets are changed at scheduled maintenance intervals
- Drive is in a confined space where shaft end is not accessible
- Reversing duty or shock loading requires positive shaft grip
- Multiple shaft sizes are used across the same drive design
- Sprocket must be removed without damage to adjacent bearings
- Production stoppage cost justifies faster maintenance
Taper Lock Bush Size Guide — Shaft Range per Bush Code
The taper lock bush code determines the shaft diameter range it can accept. The sprocket must be ordered with the corresponding taper bore for your bush code. Always specify both the chain size and the required bush code when ordering.
| Bush Code | Shaft Range (mm) | Typical Cap Screw | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1008 | 12 – 28 mm | M8 | Small conveyor, packaging machinery, light agricultural drives. 06B–08B sprockets. |
| 1210 | 12 – 32 mm | M8 | General light-medium industrial conveyor. 06B–10B sprockets, smaller tooth counts. |
| 1610 | 14 – 42 mm | M10 | Most common size for 08B–12B industrial drives. Agricultural machinery standard range. |
| 2012 | 19 – 50 mm | M12 | Medium-heavy industrial conveyor. 10B–16B larger tooth counts. Elevator and fan drives. |
| 2517 | 25 – 65 mm | M16 | Heavy industrial. 12B–20B drives. Mining conveyor, heavy pump and compressor drives. |
| 3020 | 35 – 75 mm | M20 | Very heavy industrial. 16B–24B large sprockets. Quarry, cement and heavy plant. |
| 3535 | 40 – 90 mm | M20 | Heavy-heavy industrial. 16B–24B high tooth count, high-load drives. |
| 4040 | 50 – 100 mm | M24 | Very heavy plant. Large 20B–24B drives. Mining, dredge and heavy marine drives. |
| 5050 | 60 – 125 mm | M30 | Maximum bush size. 24B and larger drives. Steel plant, heavy quarry conveyor. |
Taper lock bushes are sold separately — not included with the sprocket. Always specify: (1) chain size, (2) tooth count, (3) strand type TS/TD/TT, (4) bush code, (5) shaft diameter. The bush code must be compatible with the sprocket hub bore — refer to the specification tables below.
Ključ kolone: Z = tooth count | de = tip diameter (mm) | dp = pitch circle diameter (mm) | D = hub outer diameter (mm) | H = hub width (mm) | for Bush = required bush code | Type = hub profile type (1–8, see catalog drawings) | TS = simplex | TD = duplex | TT = triplex | * = large-tooth platewheels

High-Maintenance Conveyor & Process Drives
Any drive where sprockets are changed at regular intervals — quarry plant, cement, aggregate, food processing — saves significant labour cost with taper bore versus parallel-keyed bore. A single sprocket change that previously required a puller, shaft examination for damage and re-machining a new bore can be reduced to 20 minutes of hex key work. At multiple sprocket positions per machine across a large plant, the maintenance time saving is substantial across a year.
Reversing Drives & Shock-Load Applications
Taper lock bush grip under cyclic load reversal is superior to a single setscrew parallel bore for several reasons: the taper creates a concentric compressive force around the full shaft circumference rather than a point load from a setscrew, and the self-locking taper angle ensures the bush cannot back off under reversing torque. For crusher chain drives, baler drives and any application with significant shock loading, taper bore is the preferred mounting method. See our full sprocket category for all available types.
OEM Designs with Multiple Shaft Sizes
Machine builders using the same sprocket across a product family with different shaft size options can carry one sprocket size and supply different bush codes for each shaft size. This reduces sprocket stock from five different bored parts to one taper bore sprocket plus five bushes. The assembly is faster on the production line and the inventory cost is lower. Bush codes 1210 through 2012 cover the majority of shaft sizes used in European industrial machinery (12–50 mm).

★★★★★
"We operate a limestone crushing plant with 22 chain drive positions. Previously we needed a maintenance engineer with a full puller set and lathe access to change sprockets — typically half a day per position. We retrofitted all positions to Korea Ever-Power taper bore sprockets over two shutdowns. A sprocket change now takes one person 25 minutes. The ROI was under 8 months."

"We build combine harvesters with 12B-1 main chain drives. We standardised on Korea Ever-Power 1610 taper bore sprockets across the header, threshing and elevator positions. Our service dealers worldwide can now replace any drive sprocket without specialist tools. The 1610 bush in the 25–38 mm range covers every shaft in our drive system."

★★★★★
"We maintain reversing conveyor drives on a port terminal — heavy shock loading at reversal. Keyed bore sprockets were working loose on us within 3 months on the highest-load positions. Korea Ever-Power 2012 taper bore sprockets on the same drives have been in service for 14 months without any sign of fretting or movement. The taper grip holds far better under reversal than a setscrew bore."
