The taper bore sprocket is supplied as a hub only \u2014 the split taper or QD bush is ordered separately and provides the shaft grip, keyway and setscrew mechanism. This allows one sprocket to be ordered for multiple shaft sizes by changing the bush, and allows fast on-site shaft removal without a puller. The tooth profile conforms to ANSI B29.1, making these sprockets fully compatible with any American standard roller chain. Cover chain sizes #40 through #100, simplex to triplex.<\/p>\n

Material is C45 carbon steel with induction-hardened tooth flanks. Cast iron (G22) variants available for abrasive slow-speed applications \u2014 suffix -CI when ordering. American taper bushes are designated by letter codes (SH, SK, SF, E, F, J, N) rather than numeric codes as in the European system. Each letter corresponds to a specific taper diameter and shaft range. Specify the bush code when ordering the sprocket \u2014 the hub taper bore is machined to accept that specific bush series.<\/p>\n

Split taper and QD bushes are not included with the sprocket. Order bush separately specifying code and bore. The QD (B-085) and split taper (B-066) bush series are not interchangeable \u2014 confirm which type your drive uses before ordering the hub.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Split Taper Bush \u2014 Install & Remove<\/h2>\n

The American split taper bush differs from the European taper lock in one key respect: the bush is split completely into two halves rather than having a partial slot. This makes the American design truly self-ejecting \u2014 when the bolts are moved to the removal holes, tightening them pushes the two bush halves apart and releases the shaft grip without any force applied to the sprocket itself.<\/p>\n

Clean shaft, bush bore and sprocket taper completely \u2014 remove all grease and oil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Assemble the two bush halves around the shaft. Slide the assembly into the sprocket taper bore.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Insert bolts through the drive holes in the flange. Oil thread and under bolt head. Tighten alternately to draw the bush fully into the taper.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Tighten bolts to specified torque. Re-check after 4 hours first running. Fill the unused holes with grease to prevent corrosion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
